Founded in 1893, Bukalasa Seminary is a historic institution dedicated to forming future priests and fostering spiritual growth Located in the heart of Uganda, it has a proud tradition of academic excellence, faith, and community service spanning over 130 years.

About Us

Bukalasa Minor Seminary is similar to other Catholic boarding schools for boys. Students have a regimented life, which includes daily Mass and prayer, academics and recreation. The studies encompass the regular high school subjects like: English, math, science, history, foreign language and physical education, with a special emphasis on Latin and choir. Needless to say, regular confession, spiritual direction and spiritual conferences hold a prominent position in the routine of the seminary. 

Bukalasa Seminary is the Diocesan Minor Seminary of Masaka Diocese. It was started by his Lordship Bishop Henry Sreicher in 1893 in order to train future Priests. The present community is composed of 21 permanent staff members, 37 part-time staff members, 15 supportive staff, 40 casual laborers and 523 Seminarians

The seminary is situated about 37 kilometers from the equator towards the south, with an average attitude of 1150 kilometers above sea level. It is located at Bukalasa village opposite Katigondo village 11 kilometers from Masaka city on Nnyendo- Villa Maria- Ssembabule tarmac road. It is found in Kalungu District which boarders Masaka city in the South, Gomba District in the North , Bukomansimbi District in the West and  Mpigi District in the East.

The Seminary is registered as both an O and A level boy’s secondary school, purely private, which admits every year new students in senior one and senior five. The Seminary registration was renewed in 2020 and its registration number is PSS/B/B2.
